Who created for PubMed?

PubMed was developed and is maintained by the U.S. government, specifically the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI), at the U.S. National Library of Medicine (NLM), located at the National Institutes of Health (NIH).

Is PubMed free to use?

PubMed is a free resource supporting the search and retrieval of biomedical and life sciences literature with the aim of improving health–both globally and personally.

How Big is PubMed?

The PubMed database contains more than 35 million citations and abstracts of biomedical literature. It does not include full-text journal articles; however, links to the full text are often present when available from other sources, such as the publisher's website or PubMed Central (PMC).

What kinds of materials are in PubMed?

PubMed citations come from

  • MEDLINE indexed journals---largest part of PubMed
  • Journals/manuscripts deposited in PubMed Central (PMC)--second largest part of PubMed
  • National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) Bookshelf. --Bookshelf is a full-text archive of books, reports, databases, and other documents related to biomedical, health, and life sciences. Smallest part of PubMed.

Does Our Library have the article?

When you click on the title to an article in the results list, you will be taken to the abstract of the article.  If you look in the upper right corner, and see the tab below, it means that our library (West Library) has the article.
