Chicago/Turabian Style: Notes-BIbliography

Two Kinds of Citations in Notes-Bibliography

There are two kinds of citations in the notes-bibliography style

Footnote or endnote

Chicago/Turbian Style

Footnote or endnote citations

This version of the Turabian style uses two forms of citation: the footnote and the bibliography, also known as the notes-bibliography style. As you cite information, you provide a footnote at the bottom of that page, or in some cases you may put all your notes at the end of the paper. You then collect all your citations at the end of your document in a bibliography.

  • In this notes-bibliography style, you let the reader know that you have used a source by putting a superscript number at the end of the sentence where you used the quote or otherwise used information form a source.   Example: Thomas Jefferson said " I feel that I should give all my books in my library to the United States Congress so that they can have the best of human knowledge to consult when tending to the affairs of government."34
