Why Document Sources?

Documenting sources is an aspect of writing common to all academic fields.  

 

  • 1. Authors need to have a standard way to refer to one another's work. 
  • 2. Individuals and organizations have created standards, or rules to follow when when citing the works that influenced or otherwise contributed to their research
  • 3. The Modern Language Association has created a set of rules to follow with citing your sources
